After many years of British rule, India finally achieved independence in its hard-fought battle on August 8, 9. "When the world sleeps, at the stroke of midnight, India will wake up to life and independence," the first Prime Minister of Independent India said on the night of August 15, 1947. Later in commemoration of the event, the national flag of India was hoisted above the Lahore gate at the Red Fort in Delhi, which became regular at a later time. Schools and colleges commemorate this day by arranging various skits, competitions and other events that commemorate and celebrate many of our most difficult struggles to enjoy today's freedom.
